Editorial Policy
How Base Oil Trade selects, verifies, writes and corrects the coverage it publishes.
Base Oil Trade is a business-to-business trade publication covering commodities, energy, oil, fuel oil, marine fuel, shipping and logistics. Our readers are traders, brokers, shipowners, operators, analysts and executives who make commercial decisions, so accuracy and clear sourcing matter more than speed.
We publish constructive and commercially useful industry news: investments, infrastructure, contracts, vessels, terminals, technology, appointments, partnerships, financing and operational milestones. This is an editorial focus, not a promise that every market development is favourable.
What we do not publish
We do not knowingly publish defamatory claims. We do not publish allegations, accusations, rumours or unverified assertions about companies or individuals, and we never rewrite a negative story so that it appears positive.
- Allegations, legal disputes or criminal matters are routed to human review and are not published automatically.
- Quotations that cannot be traced to the original source are removed rather than paraphrased into speech.
- Statistics, volumes and prices are only published when they appear in the cited source material.
Verification
Every candidate story passes a multi-stage check covering source reliability, source accessibility, factual consistency against the original material, duplication, editorial quality, defamation risk and image licensing. Each check produces a score, and the combined result is recorded as PASS, REVIEW or REJECT.
We do not claim absolute or guaranteed accuracy. The system is designed to reach the highest practical level of factual reliability, and material that cannot be verified is withheld or sent to an editor.
Attribution
Articles derived from published reporting name the original publisher and link to the original article. We treat feeds and public reporting as a discovery mechanism, then write independent summaries in our own words. We do not republish source articles.
Corrections
If we get something wrong we correct it promptly and transparently. Use the corrections page to flag an error; material corrections are noted on the article.
