Predictable delivery times and successful first-attempt deliveries were identified as the most crucial aspects of the delivery promise. Operators prioritising predictable delivery demonstrated higher on-time performance and lower cost increases compared to those focusing solely on speed. Enhanced visibility and proactive communication, such as delay notifications, were also linked to improved on-time performance and more favourable cost outcomes.
The adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in logistics operations is progressing, with more operators moving from implementation to operational stages. Leading AI applications include estimated time of arrival (ETA) prediction and demand forecasting. While trust in AI for real-time operational decisions is still developing, the trend indicates a growing reliance on technology to address complex logistical challenges and potentially mitigate cost pressures.
